Yellow Roses, Friendships an Funerals

(Funeral Flower, Zen Garden, 2025, #JDPBPhotography)

Yellow roses used to remind me of friendships, they used to remind me of my Sorority, they used to remind me of my mom, they were her favorite….

Now yellow roses reminds me of the time my landlord apparently thought of me after going to a funeral and decided to bring me yellow roses from that funeral…

Hearing a knock at my door, I was somewhat surprised as I rented a lower apartment of a house and no one really knew exactly where I stayed at.  Emotionally exhausted from the new stress at work, I decided to ignore it and go back to sleep…

Then I heard the knock again.  This time it was followed by “Hey Joyclyn we thought of you today; we brought you some yellow flowers from the funeral”…

Wait, what, I thought to myself.  Sitting up in bed “thank you?,” “You can leave them outside the door I will grab them when I get up in a sec.”

Laying back down I soon drifted to sleep as I thought who brings people flowers from a funeral, from someone they didn’t know…

Feeling the vibration coming from my phone.  I blindly managed to grab it through my sheet and quickly pressed the button… “Hello?” “Hey Joyclyn, Jim and I left you flowers, there outside your front door.”  “Thank you.”  “We thought of you while we were at my nephews funeral.” “Oh, ok,” “Well you sound like you are still asleep, I just wanted to make sure you got them.”

“I’m getting up now,” I said as I ended the call.  Getting out the bed, half asleep I was low-key confused.  It’s nice to be thought of but flowers from a funeral.  I thought I had been dreaming but as I opened the door there they were, the most beautiful yellow roses I had ever seen.

I thought of taking them to my mom because she loved yellow roses but thought against, it.  I didn’t feel comfortable taking flowers from someone’s funeral, especially someone I didn’t know….

Leaving the flowers there, I went back inside grabbed my phone and took a picture of one single rose, and then put the rest at their backdoor. They said I had to move right after that….
